Coronavirus Update: Monday 1 June 2020

We are pleased to announce a slow and cautious reopening from June 8.

We will begin seeing patients with specific problems with their braces, appliances or wires.

We are still restricted in terms of certain procedures that we can perform and, unfortunately, this includes putting braces on, removing braces and a number of other procedures. We cannot yet make bookings for these.

We shall be zoning our diary to set aside time for specific procedures which will mean less flexibility in appointment availability for at least the next few months.

We will be seeing a lower number of patients each day so please bear with us. We have a back-log of patients to see and each of you is a priority for us.

Please bear in mind that we are doing our best to accommodate each of you in heavily restricted conditions so please treat our staff kindly as they are trying to help you.

Please do not telephone the Practice at this time, a member of our team will contact you with an appointment. Please email us if you need advice. 

Late cancellations due to PPE shortage or staff sickness may be unavoidable and we ask for your understanding should this happen.


There will be some significant differences when you next come for your appointment. Please read the following carefully:


  • The day before your appointment, someone from the Practice will call you and ask some health screening questions. If we cannot make contact with you, the appointment will not go ahead.
  • Upon arrival patients should stay in their cars/outside the practice and call Reception on 01962 710880.
  • Before entering the Practice, the patient’s temperature will be taken. Patients with temperatures above 37.8 °C will be rescheduled. Please do not take any paracetamol prior to the appointment as this artificially lowers your temperature if you have even a small fever. You will be escorted directly to the surgery by a nurse
  • Only the patient will be allowed in the practice. However if there are circumstances where you do need to accompany your child, we are happy to discuss this on the phone prior to the appointment. 
  • If you come by car, please leave as much as you can such as coats, mobile phones, bags etc. in the car. If you come on foot please leave as much as you can at home. There will be a box for you to put any loose items into whilst in the surgery.
  • Patients and any accompanying adults will be asked to sanitise their hands using alcohol gel upon entering the Practice.
  • You must maintain social distancing whilst in the waiting area.
  • We will send a treatment update with your child and feel free to request a phone call to discuss the appointment with the treating clinician.
  • We will do our best to allow more time between patients to reduce any waiting times and the traffic of people in the Practice
  • There will be no access to our patient toilet facilities for the foreseeable future. This is again to minimise any risk of cross infection to our patients, but exceptions can be made under emergency circumstances.
  • Appointments that can be conducted virtually will continue to be done so.
  • To limit time spent in the Practice we will not make appointments on the day but will contact you after the appointment to schedule the next visit. We will not be able to immediately make an appointment for you, until we know how long it will take to work through the backlog. We would also appreciate any payments to be made over the phone or by bank transfer  if possible. We accept all card types except for American Express, Diners Club and JCB.

We have very limited parking so recommend parking at either Tower Street Car Park or Gladstone Car Park, both a short walk away. We kindly ask patients NOT to park at St Paul’s Medical Practice as this stops their patients from accessing medical care.

We advise allowing at least 1 hour for your appointment.
